DanielleToday, I sat down with one of our own, Danielle Beaudry, Surgical Coordinator for Updegraff Vision to speak with her about her recent LASIK surgery, the life-changing results, and how her experience helps her work with potential LASIK candidates and patients on a daily basis.

What made you decide to have LASIK?

I’ve always wanted to know what it would be like without contacts or glasses. I’ve been wearing contacts for a long time and they became extremely expensive. Wearing glasses always gave me a headache, so when the opportunity came I wanted to get it done.

What is the biggest life change since having LASIK?

After having LASIK, my life has changed in so many ways. After waking up from my recommended 4-6hrs of sleep, the day that I had the LASIK surgery, I was able to see the TV. I could not believe it. Everyday since then, I do not have to worry about the hassle of putting my contacts in (in the morning or at night). I’m very appreciative that Dr. Updegraff did my surgery because he changed my life and I enjoy seeing without contacts everyday.

How has your LASIK changed the way you are able to do your job as the LASIK surgical coordinator for Updegraff Laser Vision?

Being able to have LASIK surgery has changed my job because I’m able to relate to all of my patients and explain in detail what they can expect. At their consultation, I enjoy explaining to my patients what will happen on surgery day and what they can expect before it happens. I explain to them that I was nervous just like them because this is your eyes and they are very important. But after having the surgery, I said to everyone “what was I nervous about”, the surgery was nothing and being able to see that day clearly is the best feeling you will ever have. I have so many patients tell me right after surgery, you were right. The best part about my job is to see every patient be so happy that they can see and they don’t have to worry about their contacts or glasses!

As you know, we are running a drawing for patients to share their “Wow Moment” with us on Facebook. Would you mind sharing your biggest wow moment from your procedure?

The biggest “wow moment” for me was after waking up from my 4-6hrs of sleep and being able to see the TV from my bed. Also, the next day being able to drive and seeing how everything was so clear. I will never forget that day.

What do you think is the most difficult part of patients during the decision making process to have LASIK?

The most difficult part for patients would have to be their fear. By me telling them my experience through it all, I see that it eases their mind a little. I’m always up front with my patients and being there for them, I think really helps them get through their fear.

As part of the Updegraff team and also a happy patient, what do you think sets Updegraff Laser Vision apart from the rest?

What sets Updegraff Laser Vision from the rest, is that you are able to meet Dr. Updegraff himself from consultation to surgery. Your eyes are the most important thing in your daily lives, and we want you to have the best quality. We are here for the patient and to make sure they have the best experience possible.

Do you have any advice for people thinking about having LASIK?

My best advice would be, do not let fear get the best of you. I don’t like having surgery done period myself, but this was nothing to be scared or nervous about. I promise getting over your fear and having LASIK done, it will be the best thing you ever did!
