My Amazing LASIK Experience

SheriMy name is Sheri. I am 24 years old and have wanted LASIK since I was 17.

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 12 and have always hated them. I wouldn’t even wear them unless I needed to see the board at school. I remember telling my teachers that I didn’t have my glasses so I could move closer to the board to take notes until one day one of my classmates ratted me out! I started wearing contacts the summer before my senior year of high school and, since they freed me of my glasses, I was happy. For the last couple of years, however, my eyes have become irritated by my contacts. I continued to put up with them because I couldn’t bear to go back to my glasses. Lately, my eyes have been so bothered that I would rub my eyes until my contacts would pop out!

Having a LASIK consultation, after wanting LASIK for so long, was very exciting. I was nervous, about whether or not I would be a candidate. I knew there was a possibility of not being a candidate but I also knew that Dr. Updegraff would recommend what was best for my vision goals and that was comforting. During the consultation they did a lot of testing. They took measurements of my cornea, took my eye pressure, and did a thorough exam of my eyes. I also talked to Danielle who is the LASIK surgery coordinator. She was able to answer all of the questions that I had about LASIK.

After all the testing was complete, Dr. Updegraff determined that I was a candidate!

I was so excited I scheduled my surgery with Danielle the same day. Danielle walked me through everything I needed to know for the day of surgery and I was all set.

When the day came for my surgery I wasn’t so much nervous as I was excited about finally getting the procedure done. As the time got closer, though, I did get a bit nervous but everyone at Updegraff Vision was able to reassure me that I had nothing to worry about. Surgery went very smoothly. All I had to do was stare at the red dot and, before I knew it, the procedure was over!

The next day, at my one day post op, my eyes were checked to make sure they were healing properly. They did a test of how well I was seeing and I was able to see better than I was with my contacts!

It was amazing!
